On May 1, 1944, several nuclear testing sites in the United States suffered catastrophic and near-simultaneous malfunctions, causing massive detonations across the country. Ten years later, America has fallen into the hands of government-sanctioned gangs, its radioactively diverse population polarized and frightened.
